The engineering trains were operated by DBS (EWS), but using some locos hired from Freightliner.

Access to the work sites was via the Wrexham - Bidston line.

In the first week, work was between Leasowe and Hoylake on the West Kirby line.

In the second week, work was in the Wallasey area on the New Brighton line.
